STUDENT ELECTIVES

MED 546-F RESEARCH IN BIOETHICS, MEDICAL HISTORY OR MALPRACTICE

            Pre-requisite:  Credit in Medicine 531/532.

Strong writing skills are a must

Background in humanities/literature an advantage.

            Duration:  4 weeks, available all blocks

            Number of Students:  Minimum, 1; Maximum 2

            Location(s):  Hawaii Medical Center-East Library, Hawaii Medical Library

(medline, bioethics line, law literature) - Dr. S.Y. Tan

            Program Director or Coordinator:  Laurie Tam, M.D.

II.            Objectives

Students will work very closely one-on-one with the faculty to identify research and write a publishable article in an area in bioethics medical history, or health care law. This elective is rigorous and the student can expect to devote at least 40-60 hours each week reading and writing. Several drafts of the paper including a final draft before the end of the rotation will be required. Please do not apply if writing skills are weak!
