Faculty Meeting Minutes

Wednesday, November 5, 2008

Call to Order:   The meeting was called to order at 12:35 p.m.

Attendees:  Drs. Elizabeth Tam, (Chair),  Bello, Brown, Ernst, Evans, Hew, Igno, Kuwada, MacBride, Melish, Ng, Onopa, Schatz, Shohet, Soll, Sumida, L. Tam, Tice, and Watters.

Guests:  Nancy Foster, JABSOM CFO and Coco Seymour, JABSOM Director, Fiscal and Administrative Services.

 
Minutes:  The minutes of October 1, 2008 were approved as written.

Dr. Tam introduced Patrick Frane, Fiscal Officer for the Departments of Medicine, Psychiatry and Surgery.  Patrick has an office on the fourth floor in the University Tower to facilitate grant administration in the clinical departments.

 Faculty Development:

The Annual Faculty Evaluations are due to JABSOM’s HR Office before December 31, 2008.   Dr. Tam will meet with each faculty member to review their faculty report and evaluate them.  Sharon Chun will call to set up appointments.

Dr. Tam urged the faculty to review the procedures that students and residents must follow before accepting them on rotations.  Only students and residents who are registered with JABSOM (including visiting trainees) may receive JABSOM credit and qualify the faculty for liability coverage and credit for teaching.

UCERA physician employment agreements will be reviewed by the Board of Directors at the November 21^st meeting.

JABSOM:

Dr. Tam introduced Nancy Foster, Chief Financial Officer for JABSOM.  

Nancy reviewed current fiscal status at JABSOM.  Her powerpoint presentation is attached.  A lively discussion ensued.  Faculty noted our Department brought in 36% of JABSOM’s research contracts and grants.

Adjournment:  The meeting was adjourned at 1:40 pm.  The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, December 3^rd at 12:30 p.m. in UT 618.
